Elderflower is the gentler, more delicate face of one of Europe's most storied medicinal trees. While elderberry gets most of the modern attention, the flowers of Sambucus nigra have been quietly celebrated in European folk medicine and kitchen herbalism for centuries — prized for their exquisite fragrance, their affinity for the respiratory system, and their remarkable versatility as both a medicinal herb and a culinary botanical. In midsummer, when the elder tree erupts into great flat-topped clusters of tiny cream-white flowers, herbalists across Europe have always known it was time to harvest. The window is short. The reward is worth it.

Our elderflower is wildcrafted whole flowers — harvested at peak bloom from wild-growing Sambucus nigra and carefully dried to preserve their delicate fragrance, flavonoids, and essential oils. Sweetly floral, faintly musky, with a honeyed complexity that makes elderflower as prized in the kitchen as it is in the apothecary. Sambucus nigra — the elder tree, one of the most complete and versatile botanicals in the European herbal tradition.

A note on wildcrafted herbs: our elderflower is harvested from wild-growing plants rather than cultivated crops. Wildcrafted herbs carry the full complexity of their natural environment — a character that certified organic cultivation cannot fully replicate.

Traditionally Used to Support

  • Seasonal wellness and immune support — elderflower's most celebrated traditional use; a premier herb for seasonal wellness in European folk medicine; traditionally used at the onset of seasonal illness to support the body's natural defenses and promote healthy sweating and fever response
  • Respiratory comfort and clear breathing — a classic herb for the upper respiratory tract; traditionally used to support healthy mucous membrane function, ease congestion, and promote clear breathing during seasonal challenges
  • Healthy inflammatory response — rich in flavonoids including rutin and quercetin; traditionally used to support the body's healthy inflammatory response, particularly in the respiratory and sinus passages
  • Sinus and allergy season support — traditionally used in European herbalism to support healthy sinus drainage and comfort during seasonal changes; a classic herb for the hay fever season
  • Relaxation and gentle diaphoretic support — a gentle diaphoretic herb; traditionally used to promote healthy perspiration and support the body's natural cleansing processes during illness

How to Use

As a tea: Steep 1–2 teaspoons of whole dried elderflower in 8 oz of just-boiled water for 10–15 minutes, covered. Strain and enjoy. Sweetly floral and gently honeyed — one of the most pleasant-tasting medicinal herbs in the apothecary. Delicious on its own or with a touch of raw honey and lemon.

Culinary use: Elderflower is a celebrated culinary botanical. Use to make elderflower cordial, infuse into simple syrups, steep in cream for desserts, or add to sparkling water for a naturally floral drink. The flavor is exquisite and unmistakable.

Blending: Pairs beautifully with peppermint and yarrow for a classic diaphoretic fever tea, nettle and eyebright for seasonal allergy support, or lemon balm and chamomile for a gentle relaxation blend.

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Properly stored, whole dried elderflower retains its fragrance and potency for 1–2 years.
