Skullcap Leaf, Cut & Sifted (Organic)
Skullcap has been a cornerstone of North American herbalism since the 18th century, when it earned the nickname "mad dog skullcap" for its use in traditional formulas for nervous system support. A native of the eastern woodlands, Scutellaria lateriflora grows quietly along stream banks and in moist forest clearings — a modest plant with small blue-purple flowers that gives almost no outward indication of its remarkable affinity for the nervous system. It is one of those herbs that herbalists reach for again and again, not because it is dramatic, but because it is deeply, reliably effective. A true nervine tonic in the classical sense — nourishing and restoring rather than simply sedating.
Our skullcap is certified organic cut and sifted leaf — the dried leaves of Scutellaria lateriflora, carefully harvested and processed to preserve their baicalin, scutellarein, and flavonoid content. Muted olive-green, with a mild, slightly bitter, faintly earthy character. Certified organic and packed to order in small batches.

How to Use
As a tea: Steep 1–2 teaspoons of cut and sifted skullcap leaf in 8 oz of just-boiled water for 10–15 minutes, covered. Strain and enjoy warm. Mildly bitter and earthy — pairs well with lemon balm, passionflower, or a touch of honey to balance the flavor. Best enjoyed in the evening or during times of stress.
Tincture (strongly recommended): Skullcap is considered by many herbalists to be most effective as a fresh plant tincture, though dried plant tinctures are also widely used. Macerate in moderate-proof alcohol for 4–6 weeks, shaking daily. Strain and bottle.
Blending: A classic pairing with passionflower and lemon balm for stress and sleep support. Also combines beautifully with valerian for deeper relaxation formulas, or with milky oat tops and ashwagandha for nervous system nourishment and resilience blends.
