White Willow Bark, Cut & Sifted
White willow is one of the oldest and most storied herbs in the Western materia medica. Its bark has been used for comfort and ease since ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, and across the Roman world — Hippocrates himself wrote of its properties. For centuries it was the go-to herb of European folk medicine for everyday physical discomfort, and it was the study of willow bark's active compounds in the 19th century that eventually led chemists to synthesize acetylsalicylic acid — aspirin. The herb predates the drug by millennia, and many herbalists argue that the whole bark, with its full complement of salicylates and supporting compounds, offers a gentler, more balanced experience than its pharmaceutical descendant.
Our white willow bark is cut and sifted — the inner bark of Salix alba, carefully dried and cut to preserve its salicin, salicortin, and flavonoid content. Pale tan and fibrous, with a distinctly bitter, slightly astringent character that is immediately recognizable. Responsibly sourced and packed to order in small batches.

How to Use
As a decoction (recommended): White willow bark is woody and dense — it extracts best as a proper decoction rather than a simple steep. Simmer 1–2 teaspoons of cut and sifted bark in 8–10 oz of water for 20–25 minutes, covered. Strain and drink warm. Distinctly bitter — blend with ginger, cinnamon, or licorice root to balance the flavor.
Tincture: White willow tinctures well in moderate-proof alcohol. Macerate 4–6 weeks, shaking daily. Strain and bottle.
Blending: A classic pairing with meadowsweet for a traditional comfort formula. Also combines well with ginger and turmeric for a warming physical ease blend, or with cramp bark for musculoskeletal support formulas.
