Chamomile, Whole (Organic)
Chamomile is the herb that has been putting people to sleep — in the best possible way — for over 5,000 years. Ancient Egyptians dedicated it to the sun god Ra. Romans scattered it along walkways. European grandmothers brewed it for everything from colic to heartbreak. And modern research keeps confirming what traditional herbalists always knew: this small, unassuming flower is genuinely remarkable.
Our chamomile is certified organic, whole flower, and harvested at peak bloom when the essential oil content is highest. Golden-centered with delicate white petals and that characteristic warm, apple-honey fragrance that is instantly recognizable and deeply comforting. Matricaria recutita — the true chamomile, not a substitute.
How Chamomile Has Been Traditionally Enjoyed
- Evening tea ritual — one of the most beloved bedtime teas across cultures for centuries; warm, gentle, and deeply comforting after a long day
- Digestive comfort — a classic herb in European and Ayurvedic traditions; traditionally enjoyed after meals to support a settled, comfortable stomach
- Relaxation — a time-honored nervine herb used by herbalists for centuries as part of a calming daily ritual
- Skin care preparations — chamomile-infused oils and preparations have been used topically for centuries for their soothing properties; rich in apigenin and bisabolol
- Gentle enough for the whole family — one of the most beloved herbs in the traditional apothecary (consult your pediatrician before use with children)
- Warming seasonal tonic — a classic comforting tea enjoyed during cold winter months
How to Use
As a tea: Steep 1–2 teaspoons of whole chamomile flowers in 8 oz of just-boiled water for 5–10 minutes, covered. Gentle, floral, and warmly sweet — one of the most approachable herbal teas there is. A perfect evening ritual. Pairs beautifully with lavender, lemon balm, or a touch of honey.
Blending: Chamomile is one of the most versatile blending herbs in the apothecary. It softens and rounds out stronger herbs beautifully — pairs especially well with lavender, passionflower, lemon balm, and valerian for sleep blends, or with peppermint and fennel for digestive support.
Infused oil (topical): Cover whole flowers with a light carrier oil and infuse for 4–6 weeks. Strain and use as a calming facial oil, baby massage oil, or skin-soothing body oil. Exceptional for sensitive and reactive skin.
Bath soak: Add a generous handful to a muslin bag and steep in a warm bath. Deeply relaxing and skin-softening. Combine with lavender and Epsom salt for a full spa experience.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Properly stored, whole chamomile flowers retain their potency and fragrance for 1–2 years.
