Dandelion Leaf, Tea Cut (Organic)
Dandelion is the most misunderstood plant in the yard. We have spent decades trying to eradicate it from our lawns while herbalists and traditional healers across Europe, Asia, and the Americas have been using every part of it — root, leaf, and flower — for centuries. The leaf in particular is one of the most nutritionally dense herbs in the entire apothecary: rich in vitamins A, C, and K, loaded with minerals, and one of the most effective gentle diuretics in the plant kingdom. It is not a weed. It is a pharmacy.
Our dandelion leaf is certified organic, tea cut, with that characteristic slightly bitter, earthy green flavor that signals genuine nutritive depth. Carefully harvested at peak nutrition and dried at low temperatures to preserve its remarkable vitamin and mineral content. Taraxacum officinale — the lion's tooth, and one of the hardest-working herbs in your apothecary.
Traditionally Used to Support
- Kidney & urinary health — dandelion leaf is one of the most respected gentle diuretics in traditional herbalism; unlike pharmaceutical diuretics, it naturally replenishes potassium as it promotes healthy fluid balance; used across European and Native American traditions to support kidney function and healthy urinary flow
- Liver & digestive support — a classic bitter herb; traditionally used to stimulate bile production, support healthy liver function, and ease sluggish digestion; the bitterness is the medicine
- Nutritive support — exceptionally rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium, iron, and potassium; one of the most nutrient-dense herbs available; traditionally used as a spring tonic to replenish minerals after winter
- Skin wellness — used in European folk medicine as a traditional spring tonic to support clear, healthy skin from the inside out; often combined with burdock and nettle in traditional skin support formulas
- Antioxidant support — rich in flavonoids and polyphenols; traditionally used as a general wellness tonic and immune-supportive herb
How to Use
As a tea: Steep 1–2 teaspoons of tea cut dandelion leaf in 8 oz of just-boiled water for 7–10 minutes, covered. Earthy, slightly bitter, and deeply green — with a clean, vegetal quality that is immediately nourishing. Add a squeeze of lemon and a little honey to balance the bitterness. Naturally caffeine-free.
Blending: Dandelion leaf pairs beautifully with nettle, peppermint, and lemon balm for a classic spring tonic blend. Add to liver support formulas with milk thistle and burdock root. Combine with corn silk and cleavers for a kidney and urinary support blend.
Tincture: Macerate in high-proof alcohol for 4–6 weeks. A classic bitter tonic preparation — take before meals to stimulate digestion and liver function.
Culinary: Young dandelion leaves can be used fresh in salads, sautéed like spinach, or added to soups and pestos. Slightly bitter, deeply nutritive, and genuinely delicious when prepared well.
Infused vinegar: Pack a jar with dried dandelion leaf and cover with raw apple cider vinegar. Infuse for 4 weeks. A traditional mineral-rich tonic vinegar — add to salad dressings or take a tablespoon daily as a nutritive tonic.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Properly stored, tea cut dandelion leaf retains its nutritive properties and flavor for 1–2 years.
