Nettle Leaf, Cut & Sifted (Organic)
Nettle is the herb that earns its place in the apothecary by doing almost everything well. It is one of the most nutritionally dense plants on earth — richer in iron than spinach, higher in protein than most leafy greens, and packed with minerals that the modern diet chronically lacks. It has been eaten as a spring green, brewed as a tonic tea, and used medicinally across Europe, Asia, and the Americas for thousands of years. The sting disappears completely with drying or heat, leaving behind one of the most versatile and nourishing herbs available.
Our nettle leaf is certified organic, cut and sifted, and harvested in early spring when the leaves are young and nutrient density is at its peak. Deep green, earthy, and robustly herbaceous — with a clean, mineral-rich quality that is unmistakably alive. Urtica dioica, the true stinging nettle, not a substitute species.
Traditionally Used to Support
- Nutritive tonic & mineral support — nettle's most fundamental use; exceptionally rich in iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, silica, and vitamins A, C, and K; one of the most mineral-dense herbs available for daily nourishing tonic use
- Allergy & histamine support — one of the most studied herbs for seasonal allergy support; freeze-dried nettle leaf in particular has been examined for its role in supporting healthy histamine response; traditionally used as a spring tonic to prepare the body for allergy season
- Kidney & urinary support — a classic diuretic herb; traditionally used to support healthy kidney function, promote healthy fluid balance, and support urinary tract wellness
- Joint & inflammation support — traditionally used in European folk medicine to support healthy inflammatory response in joints; nettle sting therapy (urticaria) has been used for centuries for joint discomfort
- Hair, skin & nail support — rich in silica and minerals essential for connective tissue; traditionally used to support healthy hair growth, strong nails, and clear skin
- Energy & vitality — the high iron and mineral content makes nettle a classic herb for fatigue, particularly iron-deficiency related tiredness; a staple in women’s wellness blends for this reason
How to Use
As a tea: Steep 1–2 teaspoons of cut and sifted nettle in 8–10 oz of just-boiled water for 10–15 minutes, covered. Earthy, green, and robustly herbaceous — reminiscent of a strong green tea without the bitterness. Naturally caffeine-free. Excellent as a daily mineral tonic, hot or iced.
Nourishing herbal infusion: For maximum mineral extraction, steep 1 oz of dried nettle in 1 quart of just-boiled water for 4–8 hours, covered. Strain and drink throughout the day. This long infusion method — popularized by herbalist Susun Weed — extracts significantly more minerals than a standard steep and is the preferred method for nutritive tonic use.
Culinary: Rehydrate in hot water and use as you would cooked spinach — in soups, stews, pasta, quiche, and pesto. One of the most nutritious culinary greens available in dried form. The sting is completely neutralized by heat and rehydration.
Tincture: Macerate in high-proof alcohol for 4–6 weeks. Useful in allergy, kidney, and women’s wellness formulas.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Properly stored, dried nettle leaf retains its potency and nutritional value for 1–2 years.
