Turmeric is the golden root that has earned its place at the center of both the kitchen and the apothecary. It has been used in Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 4,000 years — as a spice, a dye, a ceremonial herb, and one of the most revered medicinal roots in the Eastern healing traditions. In the West, it spent centuries as a culinary curiosity before modern research caught up with what traditional healers had known all along: turmeric is genuinely remarkable.

Our turmeric root is certified organic, cut and sifted, and sourced for curcumin content and aromatic quality. Vibrant golden-orange, warm, and earthy — with that characteristic peppery, slightly bitter depth that is unmistakably turmeric. Curcuma longa, true turmeric root, not a powder substitute. The cut and sifted form preserves the volatile oils and curcuminoids better than pre-ground powder and gives you maximum flexibility in how you use it.

Traditionally Used to Support

  • Healthy inflammatory response — turmeric's most celebrated traditional and modern use; curcumin, turmeric's primary active compound, is one of the most extensively studied botanical compounds for supporting healthy inflammatory pathways; used in Ayurvedic medicine for millennia for joint comfort, muscle recovery, and systemic wellness
  • Joint & mobility support — a cornerstone herb in Ayurvedic joint care; traditionally used to support comfortable movement and healthy joint function, particularly when combined with black pepper (piperine significantly enhances curcumin absorption)
  • Liver & digestive support — a classic cholagogue and digestive bitter in Ayurvedic tradition; traditionally used to support healthy bile production, liver function, and digestive comfort
  • Antioxidant support — curcuminoids are potent antioxidants; turmeric has been used across traditions to support cellular health and overall vitality
  • Skin support (topical) — used topically in Ayurvedic and South Asian traditions for centuries; turmeric paste has been applied to support healthy, clear skin and wound healing
  • Cardiovascular support — traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to support healthy circulation and heart function

How to Use

Golden milk / turmeric latte: Simmer 1 teaspoon of cut and sifted turmeric in 2 cups of milk (dairy or plant-based) for 10 minutes with a pinch of black pepper, cinnamon, and honey. The black pepper is not optional — piperine increases curcumin bioavailability by up to 2,000%. Rich, warming, and deeply nourishing.

As a tea: Simmer 1–2 teaspoons in 10 oz of water for 15–20 minutes (decoction method works better than steeping for roots). Add ginger, black pepper, and honey. Strain well — turmeric will stain everything it touches a brilliant golden yellow.

Tincture: Macerate in high-proof alcohol for 4–6 weeks. Pairs beautifully with ginger and black pepper in an anti-inflammatory formula.

Culinary: Use in curries, soups, rice dishes, smoothies, and golden milk blends. One of the most versatile culinary spices available — and every culinary use is also a wellness use.

Topical paste: Mix with raw honey or coconut oil for a traditional Ayurvedic skin mask. Note: turmeric will temporarily stain skin yellow — a small price for centuries of traditional use.

A Note on Absorption

Curcumin on its own has poor bioavailability. Always combine turmeric with black pepper (piperine) and a healthy fat for maximum benefit. This is how it has been used in Ayurvedic cooking for thousands of years — the tradition knew what the science later confirmed.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Turmeric will stain containers, surfaces, and clothing — use dedicated storage. Properly stored, dried turmeric root retains its potency for 1–2 years.
